Job summary

WSP is seeking an ESSP Electrical Engineer – Experienced Professional for its Fort Worth, TX office, with consideration for candidates in Houston, TX; Overland Park, KS and St Louis, MO. You will contribute to protective relaying, planning studies, and design tasks across conventional and renewable generation facilities, substations, and transmission systems.

The role requires a foundational knowledge of three-phase power and power system fundamentals, along with the ability to work

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited engineering degree required.
  • 3–5 years design or device configuration experience.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and permitting.
  • Analytical mindset with sound judgement.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office software, and analytical tools.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Protective relaying analysis, coordination, and relay settings calculations.
  • Power system planning studies including load flow, stability, and contingency analysis.
  • Design studies for grounding, insulation coordination, and power quality.
  • Develop network/communication paths for RTUs, relays, HMIs, and SCADA equipment; specify communication paths.
  • Develop and implement control schemes and test at project sites.
  • Prepare technical reports with analyses, findings, and conclusions.
  • Support risk assessment, planning, and field coordination with project managers.
  • Travel to project sites as required.
  • Contribute to work plans, permitting, and project schedules.
  • Adhere to company policies and ethics.
