Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools seeks an ESL Teacher to coordinate assessment, placement and instruction for ESL students within a designated service area. The role serves as a resource to staff through in-service training and collaboration with the ESL Program Supervisor to develop guidelines and compile data.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Alabama teaching certificate in ESL or appropriate area.
• Previous successful teaching experience preferred.
• Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure.
• Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Effective interpersonal skills with collaboration abilities.
• Ability to develop and implement ESL curriculum and programming.
• Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
• Ability to use technology to communicate, plan, instruct, manage data and reports.
• Physical strength and mobility to perform job responsibilities.
• Promptness and regular attendance.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates support for the school system and its goals.
• Conducts in-service training for staff regarding ELL strategies.
• Schedules ESL team meetings for student placement decisions.
• Monitors academic progress of ELL students and suggests modifications.
• Provides ESL instruction to K-12 English Language Learners.
• Utilizes technology to plan and deliver instruction.
• Models innovative use of technology for students and staff.
• Works with ESL Instructional Aides on teaching strategies and materials.
• Maintains mileage records and submits monthly reports.
• Submits information to the Special Services Office regarding ELLs.
• Attends professional development for ELL programs and procedures.
• Maintains up-to-date student folders with assessments and documentation.
• Administers placement tests and spring ACCESS assessments.
• Assists with evaluating ESL staff as needed.
• Demonstrates written and oral communication proficiency.
