Job summary

City of Norfolk is seeking an Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector to support the E&S and VSMP programs within the Environmental Services/City Planning framework. The role conducts inspections on construction sites, issues notices for non-compliance, and coordinates with contractors and state agencies to ensure regulatory adherence.

The position requires interpreting permit documents, performing site inspections, and communicating requirements clearly to builders and residents.

Qualifications

• Reads and interprets site plans and permit documents.
• Requires ability to review construction plans and documents.
• Requires the ability to appropriately communicate code requirements to builders, contractors, site superintendents, and citizens.

Responsibilities

• Read site plans and permit documents and conduct visual inspections for E&S and VSMP compliance.
• Perform pre-construction meetings and on-site inspections, issue violation notices.
• Coordinate E&S and VSMP compliance with contractors, residents, businesses, and agencies.
• Maintain daily inspection logs and prepare inspection reports and status updates.
• Navigate job sites safely and work under varied weather conditions while documenting conformity with standards.
