Job summary

City of Norfolk, VA is seeking an Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector to conduct E&S and VSMP inspections in Norfolk and coordinate with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

The role requires reading site plans, performing on-site inspections, maintaining records, and communicating requirements to builders and contractors. Work is Monday–Friday, 40 hours weekly with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Education/Experience: knowledge to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.
• One year of experience in construction.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Virginia DEQ certification within one year of appointment.
• Commission as a Special Police Officer within six months.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret site plans and permit documents, conduct inspections, and evaluate land disturbing activities for E&S and VSMP compliance.
• Conduct pre-construction meetings, perform on-site inspections, provide reports, and issue violation notices.
• Coordinate E&S control and VSMP compliance with contractors, residents, businesses, and City/State agencies.
• Perform regular site inspections to ensure proper E&S controls and VSMP compliance.
• Update records, maintain a daily inspection log, and prepare letters and status reports.
