Job summary

Mahaska Health is seeking a Registration Specialist for overnight ER coverage. The role focuses on accurate patient registration, collecting demographic and insurance data, and ensuring smooth clinical workflows. You will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, contributing to a positive first impression.

Hours are full-time, overnight (Monday–Thursday 9pm–7am). Prior registration or healthcare customer service experience is preferred, with EMR/EHR familiarity (EPIC) recommended.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Strong understanding of insurance plans, eligibility requirements, and registration workflows.
• Experience with prior authorizations and insurance processes is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Performs complete and accurate patient registration for scheduled and unscheduled services.
• Verifies demographic, insurance, and financial information at each encounter.
• Obtains required signatures for consent and other regulatory documentation.
• Verifies insurance eligibility and determines patient financial responsibility.
• Collects copayments, deductibles, and self-pay amounts following cash-handling procedures.
• Communicates professionally with patients, families, and clinical staff to support efficient operations.
• Maintains HIPAA compliance and confidentiality of all patient information.
