Job summary

Community Health Systems is seeking an ER Registrar to manage patient intake and registration in the Emergency Department. You will collect personal, insurance, and medical information while ensuring privacy and accuracy.

You will verify IDs and insurance, obtain signatures on consent forms, explain each consent, and support efficient department operations with accurate documentation and effective communication with medical teams.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education or training in medical office administration or healthcare administration preferred.
• 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting including patient registration, medical office scheduling, or front desk/admissions required.
• 0-2 years of experience in customer service preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and families in a professional and compassionate manner, ensuring a positive first impression.
• Registers patients for emergency services, obtaining all required personal, insurance, and medical information.
• Verifies patient identification and insurance details, making necessary updates to patient records as needed.
• Obtains patient’s or appropriate family members’ signatures on consent forms, explaining each consent prior to signing.
• Verifies insurance coverage and eligibility, ensuring information is captured for billing purposes.
• Collects patient co-pays or deductibles when applicable and informs patients of financial obligations.
• Assists patients with understanding insurance requirements and resolves related questions.
• Documents when a patient cannot sign consent forms or when a family member signs, with nursing sign-off.
• Verifies insurance and identifies proper plan codes for accurate payment.
• Compiles paperwork to ensure quick retrieval and processing of the patient visit.
• Places an armband on each patient for proper identification during their stay.
• Notifies department or physicians of patient arrival; follows up if the patient waits.
• Maintains communication with key personnel during emergency codes and alerts the facility when plans are in place.
• Performs other duties as assigned and maintains regular attendance and compliance with policies.
