Job summary

Mercy Health – St Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital is seeking a Patient Access Specialist for the Emergency Department. This PRN position requires availability on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts with 12-hour shifts and weekend/holiday coverage.

The role includes patient registration, insurance verification, and scheduling, with emphasis on accuracy, confidentiality, and strong customer service. Prior healthcare registration experience is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• High School degree or GED required.
• Associates degree preferred but not required.
• Prior experience in patient registration/healthcare preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service to patients, staff, and the public.
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
• Register patients and verify insurance, ensuring accurate patient identity for billing.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient records and accounts.
• Maintain patient flow and inform Supervisor of issues.
• Answer phones using a friendly greeting and assist callers.
