Job summary

Pierce County is seeking an Extra Hire Equipment Technician in Tacoma to perform maintenance and repair on gas and EV powered vehicles. The role requires attention to detail and physical stamina for a demanding, on-site environment.

Applicants should have an ASE Master Technician certification or journeyman status, plus four years as an assistant to a journey level mechanic and a valid driver’s license. Background checks are required.

• Repair light duty transmissions, rear end assemblies, electrical units, brake systems, fuel and other mechanical systems.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

• Perform progressive preventative maintenance on gas and diesel powered vehicles, trailers, and associated equipment.
• Perform full range of maintenance and repair functions on gas and diesel powered vehicles, trailers, and associated equipment.
• May repair light duty transmissions, rear end assemblies, electrical units, brake systems, fuel and other mechanical systems.
• Work may include tune-ups, relining and adjusting brakes; engine, transmission, and differential replacement and repair, and electrical component replacement and repair.
• Repair gas and diesel engines, transmission, fuel, electrical and hydraulic systems and components.

• Perform equipment technician duties in the central shop area.

• Certification as Master Technician from Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), OR
• Full journey level status in Automotive Machinists’ Union, OR
• Four years of work experience as a full-time assistant to a journey level mechanic.
• A resume and cover letter are required for this position.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
