Job summary

Pierce County in Washington state is seeking an Extra Hire Equipment Technician to perform maintenance and repairs on gas and EV powered vehicles. This on-call, part-time role supports a busy central shop with varied hours (3-6 hours a day) and a strong emphasis on safety and reliability.

You will join a passionate team, receive PPE and tools, and contribute to county operations while growing your technical skills within a supportive department focused on public service and stewardship.

Qualifications

  • ASE Master Technician certification or journeyman status in Automotive Machinists’ Union.
  • Four years of work experience as a full-time assistant to a journey level mechanic.
  • A valid driver’s license required.
  • Background check required.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Perform progressive preventative maintenance on gas and diesel powered vehicles, trailers, and associated equipment.
  • Perform full range of maintenance and repair functions on gas and diesel powered vehicles, trailers, and associated equipment.
  • Repair light duty transmissions, rear end assemblies, electrical units, brake systems, fuel and other mechanical systems.
  • Tune-ups, relining and adjusting brakes; engine, transmission, and differential replacement and repair, and electrical component replacement and repair.
  • Repair gas and diesel engines, transmission, fuel, electrical and hydraulic systems and components.
  • Perform equipment technician duties in the central shop area.

Education

ASE Master Technician certification
Journeyman status in Automotive Machinists’ Union
