Job summary

The City of Asheville is looking for an Equipment Operator II to join the Public Works Department - Streets Division Utility Crew in Asheville, NC. The role involves operating a range of heavy equipment to construct, repair, and maintain city streets, drainage, and related infrastructure.

Ideal candidates will have some heavy equipment experience, and must obtain a valid North Carolina Class B CDL within 90 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred, with vocational or technical training in heavy equipment operation.
• One year of experience in heavy equipment operation.
• Equivalent education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Operates equipment and vehicles to maintain, repair, and construct city roadways and related infrastructure.
• Loads materials with bobcat or loader and clears land or debris as needed.
• Performs digging, trenching, and clearing with hand tools when required.
• Fuels, maintains, inspects, and refuels equipment and lubricants as needed.
• Manages manual labor tasks supporting construction and maintenance projects.
• Follows safety procedures and monitors traffic around work sites.
• Communicates with supervisor and the public to coordinate work.
