JOB SUMMARY:
Operates medium-sized equipment, including flat-bed or tandem dump trucks, mowing machines (bush hogs/boom tractors), paving and milling equipment (paving machines, milling machines, and rollers), and performs manual labor in the maintenance and/or repair of County property and facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (All incumbents may not perform all duties)
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or G.E.D., and one year of Equipment Operator I experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Valid Class A or Class B Driver's License (depending on assigned vehicle) and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). Incumbents are subject to random drug testing due to the safety-sensitive nature of the position.
Knowledge of county geography, preventive maintenance procedures, traffic rules, and safe operation of heavy trucks and equipment. Basic to intermediate skill in operating various medium-sized equipment. Ability to follow supervisor’s directions, perform strenuous work, and adapt to changing conditions.
Physical ability to perform tasks such as sitting, standing, walking, reaching, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping, and lifting up to 75 lbs. Ability to use effective communication, handle stress, concentrate, and work with others. Ability to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends, and attend trainings as needed.
Exposure to hazards including chemicals, sharp objects, heavy machinery, traffic, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, and slippery surfaces. Sometimes working alone or in adverse weather conditions. Regularly working around equipment and driving county vehicles.
