Job Summary

The salary for this position is at the minimum of the range. This role performs manual labor supporting the Department of Public Works, including maintenance of roads and waste systems, under supervision.

Work Schedule

Tuesday-Saturday, with work at the Department of Public Works and Batt's Neck Transfer Station on Saturdays.

Essential Functions

• Provide responsive customer service
• Operate hand, motorized, and electrical tools
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment
• Manage solid waste collection, removal, processing, and disposal
• Operate heavy equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, cranes, and bulldozers
• Snow plowing and removal
• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Language Skills: Recognize words and numbers, print and speak simple sentences
• Mathematical Skills: Basic math, weight, volume, and distance measurements
• Reasoning Ability: Follow instructions, maintain cooperative relationships

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

• Class B Commercial Driver's License with Airbrake endorsement
• Forklift certification for Solid Waste

NIMS Training

Complete Non-supervisory Employees Course 700 within the first year of employment.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED and at least 4 years of heavy equipment operation experience. Internal promotion considerations require additional performance criteria.

Physical Demands

Stand, walk, handle objects, lift up to 50 pounds regularly, occasionally 100 pounds; specific vision abilities required.

Work Environment

Outside weather, near moving parts, exposure to chemicals, loud noise levels.

Comments

This is an essential position, may require shift work, overtime, and standby duty. Employees must follow safety policies. Probation period of 12 months applies.
