Job summary

The City of Monroe, NC is seeking a capable Equipment Operator to operate a range of medium to heavy equipment and perform routine maintenance on assigned machinery. The role supports park grounds, roadsides, and public spaces, and assists with snow removal and special events as needed.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED and the ability to obtain a North Carolina commercial driver's license within six months.

Qualifications

  • General knowledge of operation, maintenance, capabilities and limitations of equipment used in the area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in operating equipment.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of medium to heavy equipment including lawnmowers, backhoes, tractors, loaders, dump trucks, and skid steers.
  • Perform general maintenance and minor repairs on assigned equipment.
  • Maintain parks, fields and landscaped areas; edge sidewalks and plant beds; trim weeds and grasses.
  • Assist with special events, snow removal, and debris cleanup as required.
  • Report unsafe conditions and necessary repairs to supervisor or mechanic.
  • Work around street and pedestrian traffic and other ground utilities with care.
