Job summary

City of Monroe, NC seeks a semiskilled worker to operate a variety of medium to heavy equipment for installing, maintaining, and repairing water and wastewater lines and appurtenances. Work in diverse conditions and high traffic areas under supervision.

Qualifications include a high school diploma and experience with motorized equipment used in water distribution and wastewater collection, plus ability to perform heavy manual labor in extreme conditions and safety-compliant environment.

Qualifications

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in the operation of motorized equipment used in water distribution and wastewater collection.
• Ability to perform heavy manual work and work in varying weather conditions and traffic areas.

Responsibilities

• Operate medium to heavy equipment for installing, maintaining, operating, and repairing water and wastewater lines, pumps, and appurtenances.
• Assist with installation of water and wastewater mains, valves, taps, service lines, hydrants, and meters.
• Perform maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and assist with more complex tasks as needed.
• Work under supervision and be on-call for emergencies and customer service calls.
