Job summary

The City of Monroe, NC is seeking a skilled equipment operator to maintain and repair water and wastewater systems. You will operate a range of machinery, perform preventive maintenance, and assist with installing mains, taps, and hydrants.

You will respond to emergencies, work in varied conditions, and utilize CMMS and SCADA to manage work orders and alarms. A valid NC driver’s license is required with opportunity to obtain a tank endorsement and wastewater/water distribution certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and experience operating motorized equipment used in water distribution and wastewater collection.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license; ability to obtain a commercial license with tanker endorsement within six months.
• OSHA Competent Person certification for Trenching and Shoring within six months and Grade I Wastewater Collection or Grade C Water Distribution certification within eighteen months.

Responsibilities

• Operate medium to heavy equipment for installing, maintaining, and repairing water and wastewater lines and appurtenances.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and tools.
• Assist with installation of mains, taps, valves, hydrants, and service lines.
• Respond to emergency and customer service calls; work in high traffic areas.
• Use CMMS to write, perform, and close work orders; monitor via SCADA systems and respond to alarms.
