Job summary

Dean Dorton is seeking an AFO Consultant - Equine to deliver outsourced accounting and advisory services for equine clients. You will work under Senior Consultants, managing month-end close processes, preparing financial statements, and reviewing client records across multiple entities and locations.

You will develop understanding of equine operations, maintain accurate coding, and support onboarding, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analyses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• Two to three years of progressive outsourced accounting or related experience.
• Experience with month-end close, GL, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statements.
• Experience serving multiple clients or entities with concurrent deadlines.
• Experience in horse farms, breeding, racing operations, or equine ownership structures preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete month-end close activities and coordinate the full close process for assigned clients.
• Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow).
• Prepare and review recurring accounting functions (journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, payroll, fixed assets).
• Review work prepared by AFO Associates for accuracy and discuss findings with the team.
• Perform financial analysis including budget-to-actual and trend analyses.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow projections, and other forward-looking analyses.
• Coordinate the annual Form 1099 process and onboarding of new clients.
• Assist with accounting software implementations or conversions.
