Job summary

LATA is seeking an Environmental Scientist II (Counting Room Analyst) in Carlsbad, NM to support the DOE WIPP program at the site, managing environmental samples and analytical data to ensure accuracy, compliance, and defensibility.

Responsibilities include sample reception, instrument maintenance, data verification, and reporting; collaboration with client programs for reliability. A BS in a technical field with 1–3 years of experience, and MS Office proficiency are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Chemistry, or other technical fields required.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory instrumentation.
• Experience with sampling for hazardous constituents and RCRA requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office for reports and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Sample receipt, custody, packaging and shipment.
• Maintain counting room instruments, equipment and supplies.
• Verify procedures and analyses for accuracy and reliability.
• Radiological Source Custodian responsibilities.
• Hazardous Material Area Representative duties.
• Sample counting and reporting; data verification and validation.
• Data Package Management and counting room housekeeping.
• Other duties as needed.
