Job Summary:

As a Compliance Assistance Coordinator (CAC) within the Surface Water Protection Section, you will serve as a liaison between the regulated community, the public, and our agency. You will play a key role in encouraging and assisting permittees to comply with the Clean Water Act and related regulations, working with inspection, compliance, and enforcement teams.

This position may be available for remote work within Arizona (1 day per week in the office/hoteling).

The State of Arizona promotes a flexible, autonomous work culture, including remote work options within Arizona unless otherwise authorized.

Job Duties:
  1. Serve as an expert on surface water regulations, including the Clean Water Act, collaborating with permit writers, inspectors, and enforcement teams to promote compliance.
  2. Develop and manage a compliance assistance program for wastewater systems, operators, and responsible parties, including data analysis, outreach, and serving as a liaison.
  3. Support inspection and enforcement teams through administrative functions like inquiries, report reviews, and updating procedures.
  4. Perform other related duties as assigned.
  5. Travel within Arizona approximately once a month.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local surface water regulations, environmental law, and wastewater management practices.
  • Skills in communication, data analysis, technical interpretation, customer service, and training delivery.
  • Ability to think critically, solve problems, collaborate, and maintain effective relationships.
Selective Preference(s):
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Engineering.
  • Experience levels: 2-5 years for Level 2, 5+ years for Level 3; certifications preferred.
  • Certifications such as GIT, EPI, QEP, or Water/Wastewater Operator Grade 3 or 4 are desirable.
Pre-Employment Requirements:

Possession of a valid driver’s license and successful completion of E-Verify are required.
