Job summary

VHB is seeking an Environmental Planning Intern to join our Hauppauge, NY office for Summer 2027. The role will support preparation of environmental review documents, including EAs and EISs, and assist in producing quantitative and spatial analyses for planning chapters.

Candidates should be current students in urban planning/studies, environmental science, or public policy. Strong writing, GIS and MS Office skills are valued, with exposure to Adobe Suite a plus.

Qualifications

• Current student pursuing BS/BA or MS in urban planning/studies, environmental science, public policy or related field
• Majors include urban planning, environmental science or public policy
• Eligible for Summer 2027 internship in Hauppauge, NY

Responsibilities

• Support the preparation of Environmental Assessment forms, Environmental Impact Statements and similar environmental review documentation
• Prepare quantitative, qualitative and spatial analyses for planning-related chapters (land use, zoning, public policy, community facilities, open space, socioeconomic conditions, shadows, urban design, infrastructure)
• Assist in preparation of environmental permitting documents
• Conduct site visits to survey land use, urban design, historic resources, and site conditions
• Perform administrative functions and research in support of department operations
• Coordinate with project team members
