Job summary

VHB is seeking an Environmental Planning Intern to join our Hauppauge, NY office for Summer 2027. The role will support preparation of environmental review documents, including EAs and EISs, and assist in producing quantitative and spatial analyses for planning chapters.

Candidates should be current students in urban planning/studies, environmental science, or public policy. Strong writing, GIS and MS Office skills are valued, with exposure to Adobe Suite a plus.

• Majors include urban planning, environmental science or public policy
• Eligible for Summer 2027 internship in Hauppauge, NY

Overview

VHB is seeking an Environmental Planning Intern to work in our Hauppauge, NY office for Summer 2027.

Responsibilities

• Support the preparation of Environmental Assessment forms, Environmental Impact Statements and similar environmental review documentation, which includes preparing quantitative, qualitative and spatial analyses for the planning-related chapters, including: land use, zoning and public policy; community facilities; open space; socioeconomic conditions; shadows; urban design; and infrastructure.
• Support the preparation of environmental permitting documents
• Conduct site visits for various projects to survey land use, urban design, historic resources, and site conditions
• Perform administrative functions and research in support of department operations
• Coordinate with project team members

Skills And Attributes

• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Qualifications

• Candidates must be a current student working towards their BS, BA or master’s degree in urban planning/studies, environmental science, public policy, or a related field

The hourly pay range for this position, located in New York, is $19 to $30. The actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted hourly range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.
