• Perform administrative functions and research in support of department operations.
• Coordinate with project team members.

Environmental Planning Intern - Summer 2027

Location: US-NY-Hauppauge

Contract Type: Temporary Full-Time

Hourly pay range: $19 to $30. The actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted hourly range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.

Responsibilities

• Support the preparation of Environmental Assessment forms, Environmental Impact Statements and similar environmental review documentation, which includes preparing quantitative, qualitative and spatial analyses for the planning-related chapters, including: land use, zoning and public policy; community facilities; open space; socioeconomic conditions; shadows; urban design; and infrastructure.


• Support the preparation of environmental permitting documents


• Conduct site visits for various projects to survey land use, urban design, historic resources, and site conditions


• Perform administrative functions and research in support of department operations


• Coordinate with project team members

Skills and Attributes

• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills


• Fast learner, self-motivated


• Highly organized


• Capable of coordinating and performing multiple tasks concurrently


• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and GIS


• Experience with Adobe Suite a plus

Qualifications

• Candidates must be a current student working towards their BS, BA or master's degree in urban planning/studies, environmental science, public policy, or a related field
