Job summary

Weaver Consultants Group is seeking an Entry Level Field Technician for Springfield, IL to support environmental sampling at landfill sites. The role involves field inspections, soil and material testing, and reporting under supervision.

The position requires substantial travel (50%), lodging for extended periods, and adherence to health and safety standards. Candidates should have a HS Diploma and ideally an Associate’s in Geology, Environmental Science, or Engineering, plus 1–2 years’ relevant

Qualifications

• HS Diploma required; Associate’s in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
• At least 1–2 years professional experience strongly preferred; strong education also considered.
• Ability to travel out of town for project assignments at least 50% of time.
• Access to a reliable vehicle, valid Driver’s License, and safe driving record.
• Follow detailed sampling and analysis plans; safety protocols a must.
• Willing to work outside in varied climates; OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER a plus.
• Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills; MS Office proficient.
• Willingness to work independently or in a team; ability to lift 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and document construction activities at landfill facilities with field inspection and testing of soils and liners.
• Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel.
• Communicate with project manager, technicians, client and contractor representatives on site requirements and results.
• Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in reports for daily transmittal to the Project Manager.
• Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
• Well field monitoring and tuning; monitor gas and groundwater related elements.
• Groundwater sampling using bailers, low-flow pumps, and passive methods.
• Sample landfill leachate, surface water, gas, and soils for contaminants.
• Oversee soil borings and monitoring well/landfill gas probes; document soil textures.
• Maintain on-site equipment and safety practices; report safety issues to management.
