Job summary

BERKELEY COUNTY GOVERNMENT is seeking a dedicated environmental support professional to assist the Environmental Coordinator in maintaining regulatory compliance for NSPS air, industrial pretreatment, and stormwater programs. Responsibilities include inspecting, maintaining, and reporting on landfill gas systems, wells, stormwater controls, and related permits.

The role requires a high school diploma, three years of construction experience, and a valid SC driver's license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years of general construction experience; preferably with small equipment such as mowers and skid steers.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for South Carolina with safe driving record.
• Knowledge of refuse collection and disposal practices and related regulatory frameworks.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform inspections on rough terrain.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment in prioritizing work and directing tasks.
• Ability to manage inventory and property.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preventative maintenance of landfill gas system.
• Assist in maintaining landfill gas well pumps and well heads for optimal performance.
• Balance gas wellfield monthly.
• Maintain stormwater controls, groundwater wells, and methane monitoring wells.
• Assist in operation and maintenance of new leachate collection and pretreatment system.
• Complete inspection reports with date, time, driver, hauling company, waste description and disposition of illegal material.
• Communicate status of activities and projects and follow guidance.
• Coordinate debris collection and removal after natural disasters.
• Coordinate random inspections of loads to detect hazardous waste.
• Prepare, process and maintain reports and records including contracts and training documents.
• Assist with Air Quality Reports including Title V Renewal.
• May collect and review Storm Water Quality Reports and Semi-Annual Ground Water Reports.
• Perform erosion and sediment control inspections for permits.
• Sample stormwater for permit compliance.
• Monitor methane wells for permit compliance.
• Coordinate monthly discharge monitoring with lab for pretreatment permit.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
