Clean Harbors in Kimball, NE seeks an Environmental Compliance Process Engineer to strengthen the site’s compliance program. You will support regulatory reporting, permit updates, and Q&A training while coordinating with the Compliance Manager on day-to-day plant activities.

About the role

At Clean Harbors’ Kimball, NE Incineration facility, you’ll put your Chemical Engineering background to work ensuring our operations meet every permit condition, recordkeeping obligation, and reporting deadline. In this Environmental Compliance Process Engineer role, you’ll partner closely with the Compliance Manager to strengthen our site-wide compliance program while supporting day-to-day plant activities.

Schedule and pay: 45 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. start; compensation targeted at 80K+ depending on experience.

A day in the life
  • Support the Compliance Manager with regulatory/monitoring reports, permit amendments and updates, and RCRA/OSHA training modules.
  • Conduct on-site inspections and compliance reviews across the incineration operation.
  • Maintain and audit facility compliance records; perform quality checks on processes, reports, and data.
  • Revise and verify CAD P&IDs for accuracy to support various programs and projects.
  • Assist with quarterly ambient sampling (soil, rainfall, air), and perform QA review of lab results.
  • Report incidents/accidents to the Compliance Manager and help track corrective actions.
  • Lead customer and regulator tours to explain site operations and safeguards.
  • Serve as Radiation Safety Officer and oversee the facility’s radiation safety program.
  • Interpret permit conditions/limitations; help prepare, update, and submit permits.
  • Monitor evolving laws and guidance by reviewing corporate compliance Q&A updates.
  • Pitch in on general office needs—field calls professionally and direct inquiries appropriately.
  • Other duties as needed to support the success of the Kimball, NE team.
What you’ll bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Team-first mindset with strong communication and leadership skills
  • Working knowledge of pumps, fluid transfer, and control systems
  • Experience in operations environments or a strong desire to learn them
  • Data analysis ability using Excel, Python, or similar tools to inform decisions
  • Related background in operations engineering, project management, or process engineering
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, P&IDs, and computer-generated reports
  • Process simulation familiarity preferred (ASPEN, HYSYS, ChemCAD)
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Punctual and dependable attendance
  • Respirator fit test upon hire- clean shaven face required (mustache okay!)
  • Background check, drug screen and physical- required
