Job summary

Clean Harbors is seeking a Chemical Engineer - Environmental Compliance at our Kimball, NE facility to sustain and improve the site’s permit compliance program. You will work with the Compliance Manager to prepare regulatory reports, update permits, and review regulatory changes.

The role requires a chemical engineering degree, strong data analysis, and teamwork skills. Responsibilities include inspections, CAD updates, and training module development, with formal safety and incident reporting

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent.
• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Knowledge of pumps, fluid transfer, and control systems.
• Process simulation experience (ASPEN, HYSYS, ChemCAD).
• Experience or desire to gain experience in operations environment.
• Ability to analyze data in Excel, Python, or other applications to make informed recommendations.
• Related experience, such as operations engineering, project management or process engineering.
• Strong leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Respirator fit test upon hire (mustache allowed!).
• Background check, drug screen and physical.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies.
• Assist the Compliance Manager with regulatory/monitoring reports, permit revisions and updates, and training modules.
• Conduct on-site inspections as requested by the Compliance Manager.
• Review and manage facility compliance records as required.
• Review and revise CAD P&IDs for accuracy and updates for various facility programs.
• Assist in quarterly ambient sampling for soils, rainfall, air, etc.; review laboratory results for QA.
• Notify Compliance Manager of incidents and assist with maintaining incident records.
• Conduct tours of the facility to provide an overview of facility operation to customers and regulators.
• Oversee radiation safety program at the facility as Radiation Safety Officer.
• Review facility permits to understand conditions and assist in updates/submissions.
• Stay updated on regulations by reviewing Q&A summaries.
• Perform quality control and compliance reviews of reports, processes, and data.
• Answer inquiries by phone professionally and route to appropriate parties.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

• Conduct on-site inspections, as requested by the Compliance Manager.
• Review and manage facility compliance records as required.
• Review and revise CAD P&IDs for accuracy and updates for various facility programs.
• Assist in quarterly ambient sampling for soils, rainfall, air, etc. and review laboratory results for quality assurance.
• Notify Compliance Manager of incidents/accidents and assist with maintaining facility incident and corrective action records.
• Conduct tours of the facility to provide an overview of facility operation to customers and regulatory agencies, as directed by the Compliance Manager.
• Oversee radiation safety program at the facility while functioning as Radiation Safety Officer.
• Review facility permits to gain an understanding of the permit conditions/limitations and assist in updating and submitting permits as needed.
• Keep abreast of the regulations/regulatory requirements by reviewing corporate compliance Q & A summaries describing regulatory changes.
• Perform quality control and compliance reviews of reports, facility processes, and data.
• Answer telephones in a professional and courteous manner and direct inquiries to appropriate parties as necessary.
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by management and as required by the needs of the Clean Harbors business
