Job summary

Environmental Works, Inc. (EWI) is seeking an Associate Scientist to join our Assessment team.

This role blends fieldwork, research, and report writing to support environmental site assessments, hazardous materials inspections, sampling, and remediation projects. You will work with project managers, clients, regulators, subcontractors, and staff to collect data, document field activities, and develop practical solutions.

Qualifications

• Valid drivers license required.
• Undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, Physical Science, Environmental Engineering or related field.
• 1-5+ years environmental consulting experience preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred.
• Licensed asbestos and lead-based paint inspector preferred.
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
• Conduct hazardous materials building inspections (chemical inventories, asbestos, lead-based paint, radon, mold, indoor air sampling).
• Collect air, water, groundwater, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste, soil samples for lab analysis.
• Monitor remediation and investigation activities and supervise field teams.
• Prepare detailed technical reports and project documentation.
• Lead field technicians and oversee subcontractor activities.
• Coordinate with project managers, regulators, clients, vendors, and other stakeholders.
• Travel up to 10% (primarily by company vehicle).
