Job summary

City of Sacramento is seeking an entry-level Junior Plant Operator for the Water Division. The role supports surface water treatment, operates pumps and gauges, and assists in maintaining reliable drinking water for 500,000+ residents.

Position involves 5-5 day schedule with potential 5-4 rotations; training in SCADA and CMMS is provided. Requires safety focus, teamwork, and a valid California driver license; pre-employment drug test may apply.

Qualifications

• Six months experience in water, wastewater, or related maintenance work.
• Education in water/wastewater ops or related technical field.
• Possession of a valid California driver license and ability to obtain additional endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Make scheduled and preventive maintenance checks on facility equipment.
• Operate pumps, motors, valves, and monitoring gauges to control water flow.
• Collect water samples and perform routine tests.
• Assist with laddering access, cleaning tanks, and equipment upkeep.
• Read meters, record readings, and ensure accurate documentation.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of work areas.
