Job summary

The City of Sacramento is seeking an entry-level Plant Operator within the Aquatic Division to maintain pools and assist in drinking water treatment operations. You will perform routine inspections, assist with chemical dosages, and collect water samples under supervision.

Qualified candidates have six months of related experience and complete education in water treatment or pool operations; certification may be required within 6 months of appointment.

Qualifications

• Six months experience in performing operations in the water, wastewater or swimming pool field.
• Completion of a course related to water, wastewater plant, or swimming pool operations (Aquatic Facility Operator or Certified Pool and Spa Operator) or related mechanical/electrical technology; 90 contact hours for water/wastewater operations.

Responsibilities

• Make scheduled and preventive maintenance checks on facility equipment such as pumps, motors, and air compressors; perform routine servicing and adjustments to equipment.
• Lubricate equipment and change oil as required.
• Assist in operating treatment plant or pool equipment by reading meters and gauges; adjust water flow, pressure, and chemical dosages; record readings.
• Assist in collecting water samples and performing routine water quality laboratory tests.
• Possibly operate heavy equipment and work in confined spaces with protective gear as required.
• Other related duties may be performed as assigned.
