Job summary

GPI is seeking an Entry-Level Traffic Engineer in Portland, ME to gain hands-on experience in traffic engineering, transportation planning, and roadway design. You’ll work with mentors on meaningful projects and contribute to traffic studies, safety analyses, and multimodal improvements.

The role supports traffic operations, signal design, and field investigations, with opportunities for professional growth and certification pursuit. Expect a collaborative, learning-focused environment.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree required or in final year of study.
• EIT certification preferred or ability to obtain within one year.
• Internships or co-ops in transportation/traffic engineering are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist with traffic impact studies and transportation planning projects.
• Collect and analyze traffic data, including counts, speed studies, and crash data.
• Support design and evaluation of traffic signals, signing, and pavement markings.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, and project documentation.
• Assist with traffic modeling/simulation using industry-standard software.
• Participate in field investigations and site visits to assess conditions.
