Dominion Energy is seeking an entry or developmental level System Protection Engineer to support design and analysis of protective relay settings for up to 69kV equipment. You will perform engineering calculations, analyze systems, and learn to apply protective principles under supervision.

The role emphasizes collaboration, industry involvement, and exposure to IEC 61850 and modern protection schemes. Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required; graduate candidates are welcome.

Qualifications

• Electrical or computer engineering background, preferably in electric power systems.
• Strong time management and ability to plan work independently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with short circuit modeling software preferred (Aspen ONELINER, PSS CAPE).
• Knowledge of IEC 61850 is a plus; SAP work management experience a plus.
• Programming skills for automation of system studies (Python, .NET, C#) a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop or review protective relay settings and perform engineering calculations for transmission protection.
• Provide advanced technical support to conceptual engineering teams and project management.
• Participate in industry teams and benchmarking activities to enhance protection performance.
• Contribute to interconnection of distributed energy resources and new tech implementations.
