Qualifications

• Completion of a Surgical Assistant Program is required.
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) credential is required or preferred depending on location.
• BLS Basic Life Support is preferred upon hire and must be obtained prior to direct patient care.
• One year of health care experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving according to policy.
• Functions as first or second assist on cases.
• Assists in sterile technique and maintains sterile field.
• Checks instruments and counts supplies per policy.
• Handles specimens per hospital policy.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and participates in safety protocols.
