Job summary

Electric Power Systems in Indianapolis is seeking a Relay Technician I to support the installation, testing, and maintenance of protective relay and control systems in substations and industrial facilities across North America. You will build foundation knowledge of relay protection theory and testing under senior supervision.

The role emphasizes safety, proper PPE use, and accurate documentation. A degree is preferred; NETA certification is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Pass pre-employment drug screen due to safety sensitive position.
  • Criminal background check required.
  • Willing to work overtime and travel out of town.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, testing & repairing protective relays in transmission, generation or distribution substations.
  • Knowledge of relay test software.

Responsibilities

  • Install, wire, and commission protection and control systems on relay panels, transformers, and circuit breakers.
  • Perform entry-level testing under supervision of Senior Relay Technicians and Engineers.
  • Develop basic relay test plans under engineering guidance.
  • Document testing activities and maintain detailed reports.
  • Collaborate with Relay Technicians II/III and engineers to grow skills.
  • Maintain tools and work areas in a safe condition.
