Job summary

SmithGroup's Pittsburgh office seeks an Entry Level Mechanical Engineer to join our design team. You will analyze, design, and document HVAC, plumbing, and lab systems under supervision, collaborating with integrated architecture and engineering teams.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's in mechanical or architectural engineering with related AE experience; LEED AP and EIT are preferred. We offer hybrid work, generous PTO, holidays, benefits, and a clear path for growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Architectural Engineering.
  • 1 year of AE-related experience (summer/co-op/intern) preferred.
  • LEED AP and Engineer-in-Training preferred.
  • Knowledge of building code concepts and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design and document HVAC, plumbing, lab and process piping and controls under supervision.
  • Develop HVAC solutions with integrated architecture/engineering teams.
  • Use software to perform energy, heating/cooling loads and CFD calculations for sustainable design.
  • Produce engineering work and document changes to drawings.
  • Assist in construction administration as directed.
  • May assist in proposal materials.

The Pittsburgh office of SmithGroup is looking for a Entry Level Mechanical Engineer to join our team.

Working with us, you will:

  • Perform analysis, design and documentation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, plumbing systems, laboratory and process piping and controls under direct supervision.
  • Develop solutions to challenging HVAC issues with integrated architecture and engineering project design teams.
  • Contribute to SmithGroup sustainable design initiatives by using a variety of software to perform energy, heating and cooling load and computational fluid dynamic calculations.
  • Perform production for assigned engineering work and document changes to engineering drawings as instructed.
  • Assist in construction administration as directed.
  • May assist in developing proposal materials.

An ideal candidate has:

  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience working (including summer, co-op or intern work) in the AE field.
  • LEED AP and Engineer-in-Training certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of building code concepts and specifications.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Trane TRACE software, CAD, and the Microsoft Office Suite (with advanced knowledge of Word and Excel).
