Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience designing HVAC, sustainable design and automatic control systems.
  • LEED AP preferred; Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.

  • Working knowledge of the design and construction process and ability to coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and Microsoft Office Suite.

Working with us, you will:
  • Serve as the engineering leader through all stages of a project of any size and play a larger role in the marketing of the studio and management of the discipline.
  • Actively promote and advocate for increased energy efficiency, sustainability, and resilience in our projects.
  • Assist in establishing project goals, budgets and schedules, track project performance, and follow/enforce quality control procedures.
  • Meet with clients, project teams, code officials, contractors and others to address mechanical discipline issues and to develop effective working relationships.
  • Present engineering design solutions to client representatives and/or design review committees.
  • Serve as a mechanical systems specialist, conduct research in problem areas of considerable scope/complexity and devise solutions.
  • Contribute to SmithGroup sustainable design initiatives by using a variety of software to perform energy, heating and cooling load and computational fluid dynamic calculations.
  • Collaborate with our SmithGroup IMPACT Team on the best in class analytical tools to evaluate system efficiencies, resiliency, and decarbonization performance.
  • Lead and perform analysis, design and documentation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and controls.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate level staff and participate in performance coaching.
  • Participate in the recruitment and interviewing process as requested.
An ideal candidate has:
  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience working as a mechanical engineer designing HVAC, sustainable design and automatic control systems, including experience performing energy modeling.
  • LEED AP preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
  • The ability to lead and mentor others in area of expertise.
  • Demonstrate experience in improving project energy performance.
  • Working knowledge of the design and construction process and the ability to understand and communicate with professionals of other disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit and Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in dealing with internal and external clients.
