Job summary

SmithGroup's Boston office seeks a Mechanical Engineer to perform HVAC analysis, design and documentation for healthcare, research labs and higher education facilities. You will coordinate with designers and junior staff, mentor teammates and contribute to planning concepts and client presentations.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Mechanical/Architectural Engineering, 5+ years of related experience, and proficiency in Revit/IES and MS Office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering required.
  • Minimum 5 years of related design and consulting experience in healthcare, research labs, higher education and other critical building types.
  • LEED AP preferred; PE license preferred; EIT certification required (eligible to take Part II).
  • Proficiency with Revit, IES and Microsoft Office Suite.

The Boston office of SmithGroup is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities
  • Perform analysis, design and documentation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and controls.
  • Perform system assessments and prepare technical reports.
  • Review submittals, RFIs and contractor proposed change orders, and conduct site observations.
  • Coordinate the work of mechanical designers and junior staff assigned to the project.
  • Assist with construction site visits as required for observation, answering contractor questions, or representing the owner in preparing punch lists.
  • Create and develop planning and design concepts for projects.
  • Prepare presentation drawings and otherwise assists in presentations both internally and externally.
  • Mentor and train junior staff.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of related technical design and consulting engineering experience designing HVAC, plumbing, and special systems for new and renovated healthcare, research lab, higher education and other critical building types.
  • LEED AP preferred, PE license preferred. Engineer-in-Training certification required (eligible to take Part II of the licensing exam).
  • Proficiency with Revit, IES and the Microsoft Office Suite.
