Job summary

SmithGroup’s Pittsburgh office is seeking an entry level Mechanical Engineer to join the team. You will perform analysis, design and documentation of HVAC, plumbing, and lab systems under supervision, collaborating with integrated project teams.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering and has 1 year of AE experience. Proficiency in Revit, Trane TRACE, CAD and MS Office is expected; LEED AP and Engineer-in-Training preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of related AE experience (including summer/co-op/intern).
  • LEED AP and Engineer-in-Training preferred.
  • Knowledge of building codes and specifications.
  • Proficiency in Revit, Trane TRACE, CAD and MS Office (Word/Excel).

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, design and documentation of HVAC systems, plumbing, lab piping and controls under supervision.
  • Develop solutions to HVAC issues with integrated project teams.
  • Contribute to energy and CFD calculations for sustainable design.
  • Produce engineering documents and update drawings as instructed.
  • Assist in construction administration.
  • Support proposal materials.

The Pittsburghoffice of SmithGroupis looking for aEntry Level Mechanical Engineerto join our team.

Working with us, you will:

  • Perform analysis, design and documentation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, plumbing systems, laboratory and process piping and controls under direct supervision.
  • Develop solutions to challenging HVAC issues with integrated architecture and engineering project design teams.
  • Contribute to SmithGroup sustainable design initiatives by using a variety of software to perform energy, heating and cooling load and computational fluid dynamic calculations.
  • Perform production for assigned engineering work and document changes to engineering drawings as instructed.
  • Assist in construction administration as directed.
  • May assist in developing proposal materials.

An ideal candidate has:

  • A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience working (including summer, co-op or intern work) in the AE field.
  • LEED AP and Engineer-in-Training certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of building code concepts and specifications.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Trane TRACE software, CAD, and theMicrosoft Office Suite (with advanced knowledge of Word and Excel).
