Job summary

The City of Port Arthur is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform semi-skilled labor in construction, maintenance and related service activities across street, drainage, parks and recreation and water/wastewater facilities for the city.

This is an entry-level position where work is supervised and progress follows established procedures. The role involves operating a variety of maintenance equipment, basic repairs, safety duties and assisting assigned crews to complete daily tasks.

Qualifications

• Entry level Maintenance Worker I in city maintenance positions.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of maintenance equipment (jackhammers, trucks, mowers, weed eaters, air compressors, sprayers, saws, drills, tapping machines, generators, bobcats, rollers) to maintain and repair city facilities and properties.
• Travel between city facilities and related sites to transport materials and supplies.
• Ensure safety of the worksite by setting up barricades and safety devices.
• Plant, trim, and remove vegetation; perform debris removal and hauling as needed.
• Report major repairs and perform minor equipment repairs.
• Inspect and top up fluids and check gauges; lubricate machinery as required.
• Provide maintenance support to designated staff and assist in completing duties; contribute technical direction as needed.
• Complete daily schedules and timesheets and report work progress.
