Job summary

City-of-Selm is seeking an entry-level Maintenance Worker I to perform maintenance and minor construction for the City’s parks, streets, and buildings. Under supervision, you will develop skills in asphalt and concrete patching, sign installation, and storm drain maintenance while gaining hands-on experience with street maintenance equipment.

The role emphasizes physical labor, the ability to read and interpret plans, and safe work practices.

Qualifications

• One year of experience performing maintenance work.
• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.
• Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License. Class B license is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• General and specialized knowledge of routine street and park maintenance.
• Perform patching and finishing of asphalt and concrete in streets, sidewalks, and curbs.
• Install or repair street signs and traffic signs.
• Maintain storm drains and clear debris from culverts and ditches.
• Operate street maintenance equipment and trucks; perform heavy manual labor when required.
