Job summary

CannonDesign is seeking a junior HVAC engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team in Arlington, VA. You will assist with ductwork, piping, controls and equipment selection under the direction of a licensed engineer, contributing to educational, healthcare and corporate projects.

You will prepare load calculations and may model energy performance, plus assist BIM modeling in Revit and coordinate with specs. Strong communication and ABET-aligned education are valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.
• Knowledge and ability to apply principles of heat transfer, solar energy, and fluid dynamics in HVAC design.
• Related internship work experience preferred.
• EIT, LEED accreditation preferred.
• Excellent communication, teamwork and organizational skills across multiple projects.
• Experience with Revit, Trane Trace or Trane 3D Plus preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision of a professional engineer may perform uncomplicated designs of ductwork, piping, controls and equipment selection for HVAC systems.
• Assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection Designs as needed.
• Prepare Building Load Calculations using modeling software under supervision.
• May prepare Energy Models using appropriate software with supervisory oversight.
• Assist in Revit/BIM modeling of construction drawings for HVAC systems through design to construction phases.
• Assist with specifications as a design team member and draft reports for review by a senior engineer.
• Review submittals and shop drawings for contract compliance.
• May perform site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
