Job summary

Shannon & Wilson, a Seattle-area geotechnical firm, seeks an Entry to Professional I–IV geotechnical engineer. Responsibilities include analyses, field explorations, lab testing, report writing, and client communication. Travel to other offices and sites is required.

Strong writing and verbal skills, and PE progression planned. Requirements include a Civil Engineering BS, MS/PhD in Geotech, EIT/PE track, and 0–6 years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering with MS or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 0–6 years of geotechnical experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training or in-process certification.
  • On track to PE license.
  • Experience in soil/rock mechanics, foundations, tunneling, seismic design, retaining structures.
  • Field observation experience and geotechnical instrumentation a plus.
  • Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to other Shannon & Wilson offices.
  • Valid driver license and insurable driving record.
  • MS Word/Excel skills required; MS Access desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform geotechnical engineering analyses and calculations.
  • Prepare and write engineering reports.
  • Conduct field explorations and collect samples.
  • Perform field observations and log documentation.
  • Run geotechnical lab testing and report results.
  • Communicate with clients, vendors, and staff.
  • Support marketing with cost proposals.
  • Adhere to QA, health and safety, and loss prevention policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
