Job summary

The University Guest House & Conference Center on the University of Utah campus is hiring a part-time Facilities/Maintenance Technician I. No prior maintenance experience required; training provided to handle basic repairs, inspections, room preparation, and general upkeep across guest rooms, public spaces, and conference facilities.

Ideal candidates communicate well with guests and colleagues, work well in a team, and can adapt to a variable schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Equivalency: 1 year of higher education can substitute for 1 year of related work experience.
• Entry-level position; little to no related experience required.
• Willingness to learn facility maintenance and building systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic maintenance, minor repairs, and general upkeep in guest rooms, conference facilities, and public spaces.
• Assist with plumbing, lighting, doors, locks, appliances, carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, and HVAC as trained.
• Complete preventative maintenance tasks and room preparation per schedule.
• Respond promptly to guest and employee maintenance requests; minimize disruptions.
• Communicate clearly with guests and staff about maintenance needs and status.
• Follow safety policies and training; seek guidance when needed.
• Inspect areas and report needed repairs; maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Assist with access, materials, and basic projects as assigned.
• Document work performed and follow up on maintenance concerns.
