Job summary

TIC - The Industrial Company in Abilene, TX is seeking an entry-level helper to assist skilled craftspersons with maintenance on roads and rights-of-way, operating a range of vehicles under supervision.

You will load materials, trench and construct ditches, check fluid levels, and help inspect equipment, with outdoor work in all weather and overtime as needed. High school diploma or equivalent preferred; safety and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent or relevant experience.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Field experience in chosen craft discipline.
• Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools and layout tools.

Responsibilities

• Learn to operate vehicles and heavy equipment for road maintenance and rights-of-way work.
• Load gravel, dirt and sand; smooth and grade roads; spread rock and gravel.
• Trench and construct ditches for installation of culverts, water pipes and sewer pipes; remove silt and debris.
• Assist skilled craftsman with checking and maintaining all fluid levels and lubrication.
• Assist with inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
