Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; field experience preferred.
• Ability to understand, follow and convey written and oral instructions to supervision.
• Proficiency with electrical, hand, power, and layout tools; basic measurement skills.
• Safely operate, maintain and inspect construction equipment on job sites.

Responsibilities

• Operate various vehicles and heavy equipment while performing maintenance on roads and rights‑of‑way.
• Load gravel, dirt and sand; smooth and grade roads; spread rock and gravel.
• Trench and construct ditches for culverts, water and sewer pipes; remove silt and debris.
• Check and maintain fluid levels and lubrication on equipment.
• Instruct and train employees in safe operation of equipment and job techniques.
• Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify defects.
• Estimate sizes, distances, quantities and required time, costs, resources.
• Inspect subordinates' work for compliance with contract plans and specs.
