Job summary

Dallas County seeks an entry-level attorney to handle misdemeanor prosecutions and perform legal research in our Dallas offices. Under supervision, you will draft motions, evaluate cases, and represent the state in pre-trial and court proceedings while coordinating with defense counsel, court personnel, victims, and witnesses.

Minimum qualifications include graduation from an accredited law school and a valid Texas license to practice law.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Evaluates assigned cases or lawsuits by reviewing documentation, conducting legal research, interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, and determining action.
• Drafts, files and responds to motions, briefs or other legal documents for trials or hearings.
• Explains legal process to witnesses, prepares testimony, and keeps clients or victims informed on case status.
• Gathers, prepares and presents evidence for trials or hearings.
• Represents the State and client in trials/hearings: jury selection, openings, direct and cross-examinations, closing arguments.
• Participates in settlement or plea negotiations.
• Prepares legal documents if settlement is reached and ensures filings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
