Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Distribution Engineer in Saint Louis, MO. You will support a licensed professional engineer to help design 2.4kV–34.5kV distribution projects from concept to completion.

You will assist with design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, field inspections, a variety of calculations, and client communications. New grads with FE knowledge and strong academics are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited program strongly preferred.
• FE exam completed or in progress is desirable.
• Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of electrical distribution power flow preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative environment.
• Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office).
• Strong attention to detail and teamwork abilities.
• Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
• Involvement on campus/community preferred.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design of distribution projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Prepare distribution voltage packages for overhead and underground projects.
• Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and other deliverables.
• Perform distribution calculations including voltage drop and pole loading.
• Apply basic NESC and utility standards; support field inspections.
• Assist with data collection for project managers and communications regarding ROW and outages.
• Assist with client presentations, reports, and visualizations to demonstrate results.
