Job summary

Merced County is seeking a Child Support Specialist I to manage a caseload, interview parents, and locate assets to establish and enforce support obligations. Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of full-time clerical experience with public interaction.
  • Or one year in debt collections with interview duties.
  • Or one year in Child Support Assistant I/Office Assistant II within Child Support.
  • Or completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units of college. Educational combos allowed.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a general caseload of child support actions and collections.
  • Coordinates interviews with custodial and non-custodial parents, employers, and attorneys.
  • Develops and analyzes information to establish paternity.
  • Uses methods to locate assets, income and liabilities for support amounts.
  • Evaluates income/expense data to determine obligations under guidelines.
  • Responds to inquiries and explains child support laws and policies.
