Job summary

The State of West Virginia is seeking an entry-level Caseworker for the Bureau for Child Support Enforcement in Ohio County. Under close supervision, you will perform beginning level case work during a training period and learn to apply child support laws and policies.

Over time you will manage a caseload, locate parents and assets, prepare case files for the BCSE Attorney, respond to customer inquiries, and maintain confidentiality while supporting enforcement activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; paralegal or legal secretarial training may substitute for two years.
• Experience in a legal setting with legal research, reading/interpreting laws, and preparing documents.
• Experience in debt collections, credit investigations, criminal investigations, law enforcement, accounting, or auditing.
• Any combination may substitute for required training with a rate of one year per 30 credit hours.
• May be required to have a valid driver’s license and vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Perform entry-level child support case work during training and under supervision.
• Locate parents, assets and sources of income and calculate child support formulas.
• Research statutes, court opinions, rules and regulations and review public documents.
• Prepare case files for the BCSE Attorney and respond to customer service inquiries.
• Compose routine correspondence and maintain confidentiality.
