Job summary

State of West Virginia is seeking an entry-level Caseworker in Wood County to support child support enforcement efforts. You will undergo formal classroom and on-the-job training to understand laws, regulations, and BCSE programs, progressing toward independent case management.

Under supervision, you will learn to locate parents, determine income sources, calculate support, and prepare case files for attorneys.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Paralegal or legal secretarial training program may substitute for two (2) years of the required training.
• Full-time or Equivalent Part-time Paid Experience in a legal setting which required performing legal research, reading and interpreting laws, preparing legal documents and assisting in the preparation and assessment of case files under the supervision of an attorney.
• Full-time or Equivalent Part-time Paid Experience in debt collections, credit investigations, criminal investigations, law enforcement, accounting, or auditing.
• Full-time or Equivalent Part-time Paid Experience as an Economic Service Worker or Family Support Specialist.
• Any combination thereof may substitute for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of training.
• Special Requirement: May be required to have a valid driver’s license and availability of a vehicle for continuous use.

Responsibilities

• Process cases through location, case development and initial notice to non-custodial parents regarding obligation and child support enforcement involvement.
• Prepare case files for the BCSE Attorney.
• Respond to customer service inquiries and resolve less complex issues while maintaining confidentiality.
• Undertake training and progressively manage a caseload in child support enforcement as experience increases.
