Moffatt & Nichol is seeking an Entry Level Bridge Engineer to join our Norfolk, VA team. You will work under supervision to perform core design tasks, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and learn industry standards while supporting bridge projects.

The role emphasizes hands-on experience with structural software, inspection support, and collaboration with a diverse team across departments in a leading waterfront infrastructure firm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Master’s preferred.
• 0 to 2 years of experience.
• EIT certification preferred.
• Intern experience preferred.
• Experience with VDOT projects desirable.
• Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation and/or Open Bridge Modeler desirable.
• Experience with STAAD, SAP2000, or similar a plus.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
• Background check per NIST 800-171; E-Verify employment eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Utilize structural analysis software for design, such as Leap Bridge Concrete/Steel, Open Bridge Modeler, STAAD, SAP2000, BrR.
• Complete design tasks with supervision and learn to work independently.
• Coordinate the structural design with other disciplines and construction team.
• Become familiar with AASHTO, VDOT, AREMA, and UPRR/BNSF guidelines.
• Compile data and perform calculations for drawings and design studies.
• Collaborate with Bridge and Rail Team and all company disciplines.
• Conduct bridge inspections and assist in site investigations as needed.
