Job summary

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking an Entry Level Bridge Engineer to join our Richmond Office. You will support the Bridge and Rail Team in designing and analyzing waterfront infrastructure projects, with supervision initially and growing independence over time.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s preferred), 0–2 years of experience, and willingness to travel. Proficiency with MicroStation and other design tools is desirable, and EIT is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s degree preferred
  • 0 to 2 years of experience
  • EIT certification preferred
  • Intern experience preferred
  • Experience with VDOT projects desirable
  • Experience with MicroStation and/or Open Bridge Modeler desirable
  • Experience with STAAD, SAP2000, or similar a plus
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
  • Availability and willingness to travel
  • Pre-employment background check and E-Verify compliance

Responsibilities

  • Utilize structural analysis software for design, such as Leap Bridge Concrete, Leap Bridge Steel, Open Bridge Modeler, STAAD, SAP2000, etc.
  • Complete design tasks with supervision and learn to work independently
  • Coordinate the structural design with other disciplines and construction team
  • Become familiar with various structural standards and building codes such as AASHTO, AREMA, and UPRR/BNSF guidelines
  • Compile data and perform calculations required for drawings and design studies
  • Prepare cost estimates
  • Prepare construction documents
  • Collaborate with Bridge and Rail Team and all company disciplines
  • Conduct bridge inspections and assist in supervision of site investigations as needed

Physical Requirements

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.

Base Salary Range

$36.00 to $43.00 per hour based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting the required qualifications in the job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the Virginia market.
